About Linda M Ivy

Linda M. Ivy, MD, grew up in Alamo Heights and has lived in the area most of her life. Providing Alamo Heights with family medicine and obesity medicine services has been very fulfilling for her.

Dr. Ivy graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Trinity University in San Antonio. While studying medicine at the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio, Dr. Ivy was interested in family medicine early on. "Family medicine afforded a lot of options to practice good, practical medicine, and to focus on the whole person. That makes being a doctor an even richer experience for me," says Dr. Ivy.

Another thing Dr. Ivy loves about family medicine is being able to focus on specialty interests. For her, obesity medicine—the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of obesity—is more than an interest, it's her passion. "In family medicine we emphasize the role lifestyle plays in wellness. With the prevalence of obesity in South Texas, we have an opportunity to make a big difference. By being positive, practicing what we preach, dealing with emotional and psychological issues, and ensuring our patients know we're in their corner, we can have a tremendous impact. It's very rewarding," says Dr. Ivy.

During her residency in family medicine at Memorial Medical Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, Dr. Ivy worked as an emergency room physician. She later moved to Massachusetts where she practiced family medicine in a solo practice for four years. Dr. Ivy returned to San Antonio and joined the faculty in the Department of Family Practice at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) where she served as an assistant professor of medicine, and was the medical director of Student Health Services from 1996 to 1997. From 1997 to 2002 Dr. Ivy practiced with WellMed Greenway Park Medical Group in San Antonio before joining the Family Medicine Service at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston as a clinician and a clinical teacher.

For 10 years prior to joining Methodist Physician Practices, Dr. Ivy served as an assistant clinical professor of medicine at UTHSCSA's Department of Family and Community Medicine and practiced in the clinic there with Family Physician Dr. Margaret Mann-Zeballos.

Dr. Ivy is board certified in family medicine and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. She is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the American Board of Family Medicine, Texas Academy of Family Physicians, American Board of Obesity Medicine, American Academy of Family Physicians, American Society for Bariatric Physicians, Bexar County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association and Massachusetts Medical Society.

"One of the best things about being a family physician is being able to do tangible good. To get immediate, positive feedback from our patients, to see what we're able to accomplish is incredibly gratifying."
