About Erica Garcia-Frausto, DNP
As a mother with a young son, Pediatric Blood and Marrow Stem Cell Transplant Nurse Practitioner Erica Garcia-Frausto, DNP, RN, MPA, CPNP, CPHON can understand how difficult it is for families with a sick child. “I put myself in their shoes. I think they appreciate that I feel what they feel,” says Erica.
After 14 years of pediatric hematology/oncology and bone marrow transplant nursing with CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, and more than five years with University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio’s (UTHSCSA) Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology as a pediatric nurse practitioner and clinical instructor, Erica was ready for a new challenge when she decided to join Texas Transplant Physician Group’s Pediatric Blood and Marrow Stem Cell Transplant team in late 2015.
Driven by her deep love for learning (she holds three post-graduate degrees—a Master of Public Administration degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, a Master of Science in Nursing degree from UTHSCSA and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama), Erica is passionate about the new challenges she will face as a pediatric BMT nurse practitioner working at the Children’s Cancer and Blood Center, a department of Methodist Hospital.
Her passion for her young patients with cancer and blood disorders extends well beyond the walls of the clinic and the hospital—and involves both clinical research and fundraising. She is a full member of the Core ALL Nursing Group within Children’s Oncology Group (COG) and enthusiastically supports Flashes of Hope, St. Baldrick’s Foundation, and Kick-It, which raise money for childhood cancer research.
