Nurse Practitioner
Jessica Salazar, FNP, always had an interest in medicine and felt it suited her personality. "I especially like the service aspect of it; I find a lot of joy in that," says Salazar. Before joining iMED in early 2014, Salazar worked as a charge nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at Methodist Stone Oak Hospital in San Antonio and in the Coronary Care unit and on the telemetry floor at Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi. She found this experience to be both rewarding and challenging. Salazar also realized how much she enjoyed spending time with her patients and their families and helping to educate them about their illness. That is ultimately what motivated her to pursue a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree and become a family nurse practitioner. "I saw that a lot of what brought my patients into the ICU could be prevented, and I hoped to help impact that in a primary care setting," she says. While she was pursuing her MSN at Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi and her certification as a family nurse practitioner, iMED's former nurse practitioner, Connie Barker, was one of her professors and Dr. George Ford was one of Salazar's preceptors. She was thrilled when she was offered a position with the practice. "To be honest, it was really a dream of mine to be able to work here," says Salazar.
